Two blogs about a whole lot of nothing

Racism.

Hello. I have been wanting to write this post for ages, but have been busy, and just not had time. I've had some bloody tabs open on my browser for over a week now, so that I'd remember exactly what is was I wanted to write about. I will be pleased to be able to close them.

You see....it all started when I read this article about Daniel Craig saying that what with Obama and all, it would be good to see a black Bond. My initial reaction was 'fuck no!' because Bond is white. He's a character from a book who was written as white, so why change it? It'd be like letting a white actor play Shaft, or something. But then I thought about it (and finished reading the article), and ended up thinking 'why not'. It's just a guy. Another actor playing a part. Should we even notice the colour of his skin? No, we shouldn't. I do realise this is really, really wishful thinking, but you think maybe one day it'll happen? Of course, there will always be the moronic KKK members, the neo-Nazis and the such, but maybe one day, we won't see colour. Maybe.

So why all the fuss about Obama? He's just another guy, just another President, right? Who gives a hoot about the colour of his skin? But everyone does! Hell, I do! A black man as the President of the US?! Holy shit! It's incredible! But should it be? Ah! It's such a catch-22! If I don't applaude it, I'm ignorant. If I applaude it, I'm highlighting difference. If anyone reads these posts, you'll know that I am really not one who is keen on big ol' labels and definition, which is precisely what the entire world is doing with Obama. Me included. Ah, I don't know. Complicated.

Something happened over last weekend that is in this vein. Two of my friends were coming home from a club one morning in a taxi. One of them, for some reason, had an orange and a banana in her bag. When they pulled up at home, and she went to pay, the other friend said, "Make sure you don't give him the banana." The taxi driver was black, and immediately took it as an insult, and begin kicking up a fuss. It's so lame. A comment said in jest, just because it'd have been funny to try to pay for a taxi ride with a banana, turned in to a racist slur. Why? Because the taxi driver couldn't see past his own colour. Or maybe their colour (they are both white). It drives me mad when I hear shit like that. GET OVER IT! Not everyone is out to discriminate!

Anyway, that was just a little rant. I am contradicting myself HUGELY however, as I have ordered a vest from www.wearyourheart.com, but it only says 'Love not H8te', which I believe is more of a general rule of life, not just a gay thing. Whatever, I'm differentiating myself. Leave me alone I'm a lesbian. Whatever.
